History of Mclure's
Hilliker Van Service was founded in 1915 by Judson H. Hilliker. Located at 21 Pearl St, Essex Junction, Vermont. It began with a pair of horses and carriage used for milk delivery and moving personal belongings. Hilliker was later joined by his son-in-law Clifford Mclure in 1939. In 1946 they acquired 36 ICC state rights from an original 18 state operating authority. After some changes, the Hilliker-Mclure company emerged, located at 6 Central Street in essex Junction. After the death of Judson Hilliker the company again changed names to Mclure Moving and Storage. Mclure's was incorporated in Vermont in 1960. Previously, in 1952 Mclure Moving and Storage became an agent for North American Van Lines.
After a short change in ownership in the late 70's, Peder E. Marcussen and his wife Marylou took over the reins from Father-in-law Clifford Mclure in 1980. Bringing the company up to speed, Peder added an additional 8000 square foot warehouse, expanded the existing fleet of vehicles and added 10 - 15 personnel to the Mclure workforce. Mclure Moving and Storage Inc. renamed its agency affiliation for North American Van Lines creating Mclure North American. Excel Transport Services was created to handle common carriage.
After many years of progressive improvements Mclure North American received the 2 highest awards presented by north American Van Lines: Top Quality award and Committment to Excellence.
In 1988 Mclure North American expanded to it's current location at 167 Colchester Road in Essex Junction. With this new location another 12000 square feet of warehouse was added along with a 60 foot scale. This new location also houses 180 units for self-storage which is run under Access Mini-Storage.
In 2006, looking to improve on quality and Service Mclure North American left North American Van Lines and became an agent for Arpin Van Lines yet again changing their name to Mclure Moving and Storage.
